Corby uses horses in his therapy sessions to help young people, particularly those on the autistic spectrum, who struggle with conventional one-to-one settings. “Horses are susceptible animals and pick up on our moods and body language,” Corby explains. This sensitivity allows him to instruct young people on how to interact with the horses, which teaches them how to connect with their own emotions and those of others.
Anthony became acquainted with ReAttach therapy through a colleague who was among the first in the UK to be trained in this method. Having been a case study for his colleague, he underwent five sessions of ReAttach and found it profoundly compelling. “It was hard to explain what happened, but the unconscious process worked its magic,” he says. He describes the experience as playing Tetris, where blocks fall into place, helping him reconnect with deep memories and gain insights.
Corby has started integrating ReAttach into his therapeutic practice, finding it particularly useful for clients resistant to traditional talk therapies. “ReAttach offers a non-talking approach that complements the work I do with horses,” he notes. This combination proves beneficial in stabilizing and assisting young people, especially those who have experienced trauma.
In his work, Corby encounters many clients with built-up defenses due to trauma, making it challenging to reach the core of their issues through conventional therapy. ReAttach, however, addresses these issues from the first session without requiring clients to confront their traumatic experiences directly. “It helps people overcome past difficulties very quickly and begin functioning in the present without spending a long time exploring the past.” Corby shares.
According to Corby, one of the main benefits of ReAttach is that it does not necessitate revisiting traumas, which many clients are reluctant to do. This aspect of ReAttach is precious in his practice, allowing clients to heal and progress without delving into painful memories.
To his peers in the therapeutic field, Corby advocates for ReAttach, emphasizing its ability to break down barriers quickly and effectively, which can accelerate the healing process for many clients. “ReAttach can do it without even visiting traumas in the past that many people are reluctant to do,” he concludes, highlighting the method’s efficiency and gentle approach.
