Voncken was introduced to ReAttach, an integrative therapeutic method, through recommendations from colleagues and professional journal articles. She was intrigued by its innovative approach and was convinced to attend training after receiving a personal invitation from Dr. Paula Bartholomeus via LinkedIn.
ReAttach is a crucial addition to Voncken’s therapeutic approach, as it can address both psychological and neurological issues. The method integrates various therapeutic techniques and offers body-oriented psychotherapy that does not require clients to relive their experiences verbally. This feature makes ReAttach particularly suitable for clients who struggle with processing their experiences through traditional talk therapy.
Voncken applies ReAttach in her practices, especially when change is necessary for progress. The method creates conditions and helps clients clear mental and emotional obstacles, enabling them to develop new pathways in their thinking and actions.
ReAttach is sometimes compared to EMDR, a well-known trauma treatment, but It distinguishes itself by being less taxing on the client. It uses a combination of vocal commands, thought assignments, and rhythmic touches, gently guiding clients toward self-insight and functional recovery. ReAttach can be applied to individuals with trauma without being trauma-focused.
A notable case in Voncken’s practice involved a man who, through ReAttach treatment, re-discovered positive memories he had long forgotten. This rediscovery helped him enter a more positive flow and see things in a less gloomy light. This example illustrates how ReAttach can significantly change clients’ perspectives and quality of life.
Voncken advises fellow occupational therapists working with similar client groups to explore the possibilities of ReAttach and consider training in this method, given its versatility and positive outcomes.
